Born in Albany, Western Australia, Erin Coates lives and works in Perth. She has worked consistently over the past decade to build a strong body of work that includes drawing, video, sculpture, installation and short films. Her large climbing wall for the Inside Running exhibition at the Fremantle Arts Centre as part of the Perth International Arts Festival in 2013 and her participation in International Arts Space’s residency in 2014 and exhibition spaced 2 : future recall at the Western Australian Museum in 2015 have seen her practice gain in rigour and recognition in Western Australia. Her work has also been included in many national and international group shows and film festivals such as Aesthetica Short Film Festival, UK (2014), Subject to Ruin, Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, Sydney (2014); Energetics and Informatics: ADA Symposium and Exhibition, Aotearoa Digital Arts Network, Whanganui, New Zealand (2010); and My Favourite Australian, National Portrait Gallery of Australia, Canberra (2008). Erin has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Curtin University, Perth and a Master of Fine Arts from MFA from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.
